Overview

A gummy smile occurs when excessive upper gum shows while smiling. This treatment uses neurotoxin to relax the levator labii muscles, softening the lift of the upper lip and creating a more balanced, attractive smile.

What to Expect

• Treatment Time: 5–10 minutes
• Discomfort: Quick, mild pinches near the base of the nose
• Post-Treatment: Slight redness or swelling may occur
• Onset of Results: Typically begins around day 3–5
• Lasts: 2–3 months on average

Pre-Treatment Care

• Avoid alcohol and blood thinners 1–2 days before your appointment
• Do not apply skincare or makeup to the upper lip area
• Let your provider know if you’ve had recent dental work or oral surgery
• Avoid waxing or treatments around the upper lip beforehand

Aftercare

• Refrain from excessive smiling, kissing, or lip movement for the first 24 hours
• Avoid touching the upper lip area
• No vigorous exercise or heat exposure for one day
• Resume regular activities the following day unless otherwise advised

Contraindications

This procedure is not advised for those who:

• Are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Have a history of muscle weakness around the mouth
• Have had recent dental surgery or trauma
• Are allergic to botulinum toxin
• Have facial nerve disorders

Additional Notes

• Can be combined with lip filler or lip flip for a complete perioral enhancement
• A conservative approach is taken to avoid interfering with natural expressions
• Follow-up may be required if movement returns sooner than expected
